Today we are testing recipes from the Friends Official Cookbook, written by Amanda Yee. I am testing two recipes from the Friends Official Cookbook: “The Opposite of Man: Blackberry Mint Jam” and “Eggs A La Chandler”.

The recipes that I am recipe testing are: “The Opposite of Man: Blackberry Mint Jam” and “Eggs A La Chandler”. But there are over 90 other recipes available to try.

THE OPPOSITE OF MAN: BLACKBERRY MINT JAM
Season 3, Episode 3 “The One With the Jam”
Monica and Richard recently broke up and to get over the relationship, she starts making jam. Because the opposite of man is JAM! She quickly decides that making jam is not enough and instead, wants to have a baby using a sperm donor.
My favourite part about this episode was at the end when Joey is telling Monica about his vision for Monica’s future. It is a sweet moment between two friends and how Joey sees Monica’s life. He lets Monica realize this future for herself and she realizes that using a sperm donor is not what she really wants.
Back to the jam.
In the video, I did boil the jam for too long but I wish the instructions had more details on how to check if the jam is done. In my Strawberry Jam recipe, it was easier to check when the jam is ready.
However, I don’t think I would like the Blackberry Mint Jam because blackberries have way too many seeds! It wouldn’t be enjoyable for me.
EGGS A LA CHANDLER
Season 2, Episode 17 “The One Where Eddie Moves In”
After Joey moves out of his shared apartment with Chandler, Eddie moves in as Chandler’s new roommate. There seems to be a competition between Joey and Eddie on who is the better roommate. This competition includes how Chandler likes his eggs for breakfast. Eddie makes them “this way”.
I think both Eddie and Joey are trying their best to impress Chandler. It may seem that Eddie is winning but Chandler’s negative feelings towards Joey moving out is the main emotion in this episode. In the end, we know that Eddie moves out and Joey moves back in, making the world normal again! (oops – spoiler alert?)
The recipe was easy-to-follow and the final product tasted great. I’ve never had “egg in a hole” before and I did enjoy the recipe.
THE BEST PARTS OF THE OFFICIAL COOKBOOK
I’ll be honest, I don’t buy cookbooks often. I normally Google whatever recipe I’m thinking about making. But, I found this cookbook after I went to the FRIENDS Experience in Toronto.
Here is a list of things I like about the FRIENDS cookbook:
- Hardcover with high quality paper
- HD images
- Each recipe is linked to an episode or a special moment in FRIENDS TV show
- Recipes have easy-to-find ingredients with instructions
IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE COOKBOOK
I do recommend this cookbook to anyone, especially if you’re a FRIENDS fan. But, there is 1 improvement that I would like to see.
Having high quality photos for all recipes.
I like to have pictures for the recipes so I can have a sense of what the final product is suppose to look it. Photography is really expensive but it adds so much to the cookbook.
FINAL THOUGHTS: IS THIS WORTH BUYING?
YES.
I enjoyed going through the FRIENDS official cookbook; reading facts about the episodes. It’s also a great way to bring the beloved show to life.
